E1b1b1a2 in Scotland

Hi All,  I'd be interested in conversing with anyone of Scottish descent who has had their Yline tested as E1b1b1a2 or V 13.  The best theory for our V 13 Johnsons being from the Scots border area is that our Yline is descended from Thracian troops stationed on or around Hadrian's Wall.

Hello Brett yes I am E1b1b1a2 and V13 and I agree with you.

I am a Kilpatrick and E1b1b1a2 is not Celtic.

The Colquhoun Clan has many name changes such as Calhoun,Calhoon,Colhoun but was originally de Kilpatrick and believed to have been started by a Thracian Auxillery Soldier in the area of West Kilpatrick around 100AD when guarding the Antoine Wall.If you check both Kirkpatrick-Kilpatrick FTDNA and Calhoun FTDNA group you will see the DNA results.

Hi Ross.  Mine seems to be a similar story.  By all accounts our Johnsons, (spelled both Johnson and Johnston in different records) came from the border area and also descended from the Thracian auxillery troops.  There was the Primae Cohors Thracum at Birdoswald for some time I believe.  Have you been to the Double Helix web site?  There is a wealth of information there.  Genetic genealogist Steve Bird has written an excellent work on V 13 Brits also.

Hello Brett yes often look at Double Helix good stuff.Have been in contact with Steven Bird and also Andrew Lancaster both have been helping me pursue my Thracian roots. Funny in High School I loved Ancient History particularly Greek History and was into Thrace and Thracian cavalry and wow thats where I come from.

Trouble is Thrace covers heaps of countries, Albania,Romania,Bulgaria, Serbia, Crotia, Kosovo,Macedonia

wish there was a single definitive country  that i could say is mine.

My 390=23,393=12,19=13,391=10,385a=17,385b=18 is there any connections?

The Second Cohors Thracum were based in Falkirk-West Kilpatrick so good guess thats where my ancestor was.

Hi Ross,

 

390=24; 393=13; 19=13;  391=10;  385a=16;  385b=18.  So I think we are off a bit.  I'm under the understanding that my connection was most likely the Primae Cohors Thracum at Birdoswald.  It is amazing though, how this information has been lost for so long and now we can start to uncover it a little through Ydna evidence.  I'm sure we are still in the stone age of genetic genealogy though.

Hello Brett our DNA is a little bit off but we are still from the same cavalry.

Yes this DNA stuff is amazing and can only get better.

Steven Bird has done some very helpful detective work, however not everyone who is of Scottish ancestry and possess YDNA haplotype e1b1b1a2 V13 is Thracian. I suspect that most are, but the little gem of Scotland has drawn many immigrations over the millenia including Phoenicians, Israelites, and Jews from the Mediterranean. The proof is in the DNA. My markers tend to identify me as Thracian, but as more studies are done and more SNP's are identified don't be surprised to find that some e1b1b1 ancestors spoke a middle eastern language.

Hi Matthew;I agree wholeheartedly and have read Bird et al among many other genetics reviews  and my nearest matches so far are  11 out of 12 markers, a person in Dunkeld Pershire and 10 out of 12 markers a person named Shafiro from the Ukraine and a person named Hollo from Hungary.I do have an affinity for the plight of the Palestinians also sooooo.....I may be middle eastern ,lol.It's intriguing and I intend to have more markers analysed to nail my ancestry down more precisely...when national geographic has the next sale on prices.Thanks for the reply,ps,how many markers have you done so far?

Hi Matthew, my brothers markers are close to yours : 
13 25 13 10 16 17 11 12 13 13 11 30  (v13)
the surname is derived from Hubba Ragnarsson.
I have Young's in my family tree. My Autosomal DNA is 93% Orcadian and 7% Middle eastern. 
So I'm looking to find a connection to Scotland in two respects. My grandfather  was a Scottish Mason by trade. I have only traced that line in the USA back to 1790, I don't know when they arrived, or what country they came from.
