how does Scotland emerge as a forward thinking nation

how does Scotland emerge as a forward thinking nation?

When all that is discussed is history and popularity politics of a cheeky chappy what happens to Scotlands image in the world?

More should be done to engage new ideas, talent and innovation but instead we see cuts in music / the arts and innovation.

The Scots have a geat sense of keeping it real but the last few years has seen sentimental support for a view of Scotland that looks backward because that is the brand sale for a political party...Scotland existed way before any of this nonsensebut where is it going tomorrow?

A thinking nation is the result of a multiplicity of factors, and one of them, i think, is the government´s work, specially, on education in all levels, developing curious minds & adapting to the new challengs, for this and the next generations, having in mind facts in the past to understand the present and preparing for the future. Also, differents sectors of the society should take part of this. The people in a nation are a poet, an artist, a thinker that continous are creating and thinking themselves, and i think that is has to be in a world level too.
Finally a response! Thanks. I agree. the promotion of learning and understanding is important and the government has a rrole to play but how useful are they if they only shout and scream at each other, ignore innovation, diversity and open opportunity for REAL engagement. Politics is too reactionary, too negative to realise the value of their thinkers and artists and poets unless they become famous of course then there is a photo op!

We have failled to build the bridges required to connect community / society with the vision of a better wworld instead we react to crisis and economics without vision and commitment. The traditional and historical vison has a place but it is not to promote Nationalism and politics it is too as you say understand the lines between the past present and future...the will and commitment to collaborate for the greater good is lost in the battle for power.
First, i apologize because english isn´t my first language, but i try my best, hehe.
I understand your point of view.
i live in a country where polititians just want us mediocres and under ignorance. They use the people´s necessity to win this battle for power.
Most of the time, to get a real engagement, a real plan, is hard to make it concrete. It is as we said “ we fight against windmills” (Don Quixote). Is totally realistic that it seems as if polititians don´t see any profit on it, they don´t care. then is when a thought comes to my mind : polititians developed in our commmunities, they grown and educated in this societies.
On the other side, when the government is frozen, that is when “common people” appears in little groups, but appears, to promote thinkers, contening people, to take the role that it suppose belongs to the government.
I propouse participate in our community working in this groups, civil, churchs or many others to create and develop conscience.
I talked about this with friends or people in general (how we do to emerge as thinking people), but sometimes is like even them don´t want to think. Do you know what i mean?
And i work with kids & teens (as a voluntary) and try to they realize that exists another reality, where “think” worths instead the easy way.
Ok, probably it sounds idealistic, but i think our “little” acts makes the difference.
well said
