Let the world know about Your Scotland

Wondering about the best way to go about planning a first time trip to Scotland. I'm not travel savvy at all and would appreciate any suggestions/advice from more seasoned travellers. Thanks so much!

Well Machele, depending on how much time you had,i would start at the lovely Scottish borders and work my way up,perhaps the Jedburgh then Melrose area, you could then go north west and discover Oban and the western isles before heading to Inverness and the highlands, coming back south you could travel down the east coast of Fife and visit St Andrews and the lovely fishing villages, then visit Dunfermline Abbey then perhaps head towards Stirling to visit the beautiful castle before finishing in Scotlands capital Edinburgh.

This is a wonderful itinerary and definitely something I'll use to plan around. Thanks, Gary!

Glad to have been of service Machele,i have lived in Scotland all my life and these are areas i never tire of visiting!

There's so many options, and it depends a lot on what you are interested in? There's plenty of 'tourist' options, but there's also loads of amazing places to go that take a little more searching out.

If you're looking for information on how to get around once you arrive, this site is really useful for planning travel by any form of public transport: http://www.travelinescotland.com/welcome.do

(Here's the main site for train info and bookings: http://www.scotrail.co.uk/, and this one has most of the West coast ferry timetables: http://www.calmac.co.uk/)

There are also plenty of of good websites with information about Scotland, if you want to find out more about what to do and see over here. I have plenty of links to a host of Scottish sites on my website links page here: http://www.photography-scotland.com/links/ which would start you off with information on holidays, music, photos taken around Scotland, and a few other things.

I hope that's of some help to get you started!

Ros

Wow! What great information. Thanks so much for taking the time to write and share this with me, Ros! I'm excited about starting to plan.

Have fun with that, Machele! Let us know if there's anything else we can help with.
